Practice + Approach
I started Sky + Stone Counseling to help address the mental health needs in Shorewood and throughout Wisconsin (via virtual counseling). I currently hold a Licensed Professional Counselor and strive to uphold the ACA Code of Ethics in all aspects of my practice, from the actual therapy to paperwork and business decisions. I do this work to empower clients to live a life that closely aligns with their values, and to support the healing and changes necessary to accomplish this.
As each client brings their own collection of strengths, history, and challenges into the counseling space, I believe that therapy should be client-centered, tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. Because of this belief, I treat therapy like a partnership. I’ll bring my training and education, you bring your lived experience (you know you best after all!) and together we’ll collaborate to first identify then work towards your goals. I often integrate cognitive-behavioral strategies (i.e. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, and DBT), mindful self-compassion exercises, and motivational interviewing techniques in counseling sessions. For clients who choose to work through trauma-related issues, we can explore EMDR or CPT. I suppose my style can be described as warm and realistic.
Training + Experience
I decided to become a therapist while grappling with the early days of motherhood. My daughter inspired me to go back to school, as I wanted to model that one can be a good (enough) mother AND pursue other important goals. I had previously worked with young people navigating mental health issues, and witnessed the transformative power of truly listening without judgment.
I graduated from Mount Mary University with an M.S. in Professional Counseling. During my internship year and following graduation, I provided individual counseling to adults, teens, and children at a small private practice until I opened Sky + Stone Counseling. To better support clients who are working to heal from trauma, I completed EMDR training through an EMDRIA-approved organization. I also have specialized training in both Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders and Perinatal Grief & Loss, and am actively working towards PMH-C certification.
When I’m not working with clients…
Days that start with a cup of coffee and a book are far better for me than those without. I love (and sometimes despise) running, camping, and crushing competition-based tv series (tattoos, glass-blowing, races, food—it’s all great). I’m grateful that I get to share my adventures with my husband and our daughter.
